The Oyster® Connect – Outdoor Unit
The powerful antennas, both the LTE and a dual band WLAN module, are built directly into the outdoor unit of the Oyster Connect. The two SIM card readers are also housed in the outdoor unit, as they must be located near the LTE module for technical reasons.
Due to the immediate proximity of the antennas to the respective LTE or WLAN module, virtually lossless RF connection of the components to one another is possible. Even the weakest signals arriving at the antenna can be processed by the receivers, whilst signals from the transmitters reach the antennas at 100%. This concept enables the Oyster® Connect to achieve the technically highest possible radio range, since the use of signal-reducing coaxial antenna cables can be avoided. Instead, the connection between the indoor unit (router) and outdoor unit consists of a robust data cable, where the length has no effect whatsoever on system performance.
Oyster® Connect – Indoor Unit
The second component of the Oyster® Connect system, the indoor unit (router), is located inside the vehicle and contains all other components, such as powerful processors, two additional WLAN modules, control buttons, LEDs for status display and connections for power supply and LAN connections. The indoor unit (router) broadcasts a true 2.4 GHz + 5 GHz dual band WLAN in the vehicle interior, with which you can connect all your portable devices. The antennas for this are housed in a space-saving manner in the actively ventilated housing of the indoor unit (router).
SIM Card / Multi SIM Card
It is advantageous to use a multi SIM card, which you can insert into the card reader during installation. This way you only have one mobile contract for your smartphone and Oyster Connect. In 2017, roaming charges were abolished in Europe, so use of mobile services abroad in Europe generally incurs no additional charges.
The Oyster Connect concept provides for all transmission and reception units, including the card reader, to be located in the outdoor unit, which is mounted on top of the vehicle roof. This is the optimal mounting location because it is the only way to ensure that no signal degradation (= attenuation) occurs through the vehicle body and heat-protective glazing.
This also enables the use of a data cable instead of a coaxial cable for lossless data transmission from the outdoor unit into the vehicle interior to the indoor unit. Coaxial cables would result in attenuation losses. Depending on the quality and frequency of the cable, signal loss of 0.5 dB – 1.5 dB per metre occurs. Thus, with a 4 metre long coaxial cable, you would have to accept a signal loss of approximately 50% – 75%.
Now new with external WLAN and WireGuard™
- External WLAN: If desired, your own WLAN can now also be broadcast via the external antenna in a significantly wider radius around the vehicle. This WLAN can also be configured as an isolated guest network with its own WLAN name and password.
- Support for the WireGuard™ protocol (brand of WireGuard LLC): Enables a free, secure VPN connection to compatible routers (e.g. Fritz!Box) – for protected internet traffic in public WLANs

Customs duties and import taxes
Deliveries outside the European Union (United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, Australia and New Zealand) are shipped DAP (Delivered at Place). Customs duties, import taxes and any fees charged by the carrier or the customs authorities in the destination country are not included in our prices or shipping costs and are payable by the recipient.
Products delivered within Germany only
Some products can only be delivered within Germany, for example:

- rigid long parts over 120 cm, such as poles, rails, profiles, panels and ladders

- towbars, air suspension, springs and shock absorbers, wheel spacers, alloy wheels, levelling jacks and stabilisers
- AGM and gel batteries

Returns

Statutory warranty
The statutory warranty for defects applies to all products. For new goods purchased by consumers, the warranty period is two years from delivery. If a product is defective, please e-mail info@stahlor.com with your order number, a short description of the defect and, where possible, photos.
A manufacturer's guarantee, where offered, applies in addition to your statutory rights and does not limit them.
